An excellent show that definitely gave the fan his/her money's worth, being that this is my favorite band and that I've followed them for over 20 years. Their sound was a little different, which was not surprising, given the addition of new drummer (Atom), but still solid. They opened up with three straight old-school classics (Another State of Mind, Mommy's Little Monster, The Creeps), continued with many fan favorites (Reach For The Sky, Highway 101, Story Of My Life, Ball & Chain, Don't Drag Me Down, Sick Boy, Nickels & Dimes, Bad Luck, Ring Of Fire), and sprinkled in 'new' songs that they've been experimenting with for a few years now, in typical Aaron Lewis style (Bakersfield, Still Alive, You Can't Take It With You). Mike also once again expressed throughout the show how much he has loved playing for the Jersey crowd over the years...well WE LOVE YOU, MIKE!! My only beef with the show is that I was hoping to hear some harder-edged 'new' material that the boys have been experimenting with over the years, like Far Behind and I Won't Run No More (from greatest hits album). Anyway, I was hoping for a harder Aaron Lewis sound, but the absence of said material and the decidedly country/rockabilly flavor of the new material made me feel at times like I was seeing the Mike Ness solo band (which is phenomenal, btw). Hopefully the new album, which Mike mentioned may come out early next year, has both hard stuff as well as rockabilly, or else it will sound like a Mike Ness solo record. Once again, seeing Mike & Co rock NJ was a treat, but I'm of course a little biased.
